Recycled Sari Scarf by Didi Bahini

image of woman visible from nose to chest, wearing purple and pink patterned sari scarf

Made by a women's owned and staffed fair trade business in Kathmandu, these vibrant scarves are sure to be a new wardrobe staple! These beautiful pieces are made from retired saris worn by women in the Himalayas.

The original 8 meter long saris worn for celebrations had slight imperfections caused by trampled hemlines from many journeys, tears from children clinging, and holes from unexpected occurrences. These saris were collected by women who washed, sorted, inspected and then recut, sewed and ironed the material into new infinity scarves to be worn by you.

Although we can not guarantee the exact fibre content of the scarves given that they are recycled textiles, we can guarantee that the fabrics are soft and fall nicely. Many are silk.

Every time you wrap yourself in one of these 'sister scarves', you will be connected to the beautiful energy of every sister involved in its history. Didi Bahini is proud to create this beautiful sisterhood of support through their fair trade business, and invite you to join them. Wrap yourself in your new beautiful scarf and help empower the women of Nepal through your purchase.

30% off Dried Fruit from Level Ground Trading

image of Level Ground dried fruit lined up in a row on a table against a splattered paint background

Also included in the Welcome Box is a coupon for 30% off any dried fruit from Level Ground Trading.

Level Ground's mission is to trade fairly and directly with small-scale producers in developing countries, offering customers ethical choices. Their vision is to alleviate poverty in developing countries through Direct Fair Trade.

It all started in 1997 when four families came together with the idea of improving the lives of disadvantaged producers through trade. Inspired by the work of Ten Thousand Villages, they were keen to see the principles of Fair Trade applied to foods we consume every day.

Level Ground’s first Fair Trade initiative was buying coffee from a cooperative in Colombia. From there, lots happened including additional trade relationships formed in Bolivia, Peru, Ethiopia, Tanzania & D.R. Congo, a Colombian company formed to produce dried fruit and cane sugar and to provide positive employment for displaced women, and trade relationships started with small-scale tea growers in India, heirloom rice farmers and coconut oil producers in the Philippines, spice farmers in Sri Lanka, and vanilla growers in Uganda.

At home at their Victoria office, Level Ground staff:

  • stick to a ‘zero to landfill’ mandate for our office & roasting facility

  • compost over 20,000 lbs of organic matter and reclaim 24,000 empty coffee packages/year

  • converted our coffee package to 100% compostable packaging material

  • reclaim our packaging for recycling and composting

  • pay staff to bike, carpool or bus to work, saving nearly 52,000 kms/year

We are thrilled to work with the folks at Level Ground, and look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
